The Northwest Passage
Nov/080
You can’t go wrong with leather gloves, and I’m picking this pair FTW = For The Win(ter). I saw the Northwest Passage gloves by Defcon on Louie Fountain last spring at Kamp K2. He pointed out the baseball inspired cross-stitching details, the zipper ring reminiscent of Native American dream catchers (with arrowhead shaped leather pulls), and of course the tassels. “They’re long enough to hang below your sleeves, but not too long to be a safety hazard.” Louie says. Yup, sounds like the perfect length to me.
At $79 they’re on a higher price point for snowboarding gloves, but I think they’re worth every single penny. Kudos to Louie and Defcon.
Pedal Pedal Pedal
Sep/081
The last time I pedaled was in Berlin on an old and borrowed bicycle with a couple of friends. I had forgotten how fun bicycles were! The last bike I owned was a BMX, which I haven’t ridden in almost a decade. I should really throw it away or donate it soon before the spiders living inside the handlebar tubes claim it for good.
So I just got a new job (a story for another time), and I am once looking to again spend some money before I actually get any. This time, I am looking for a bicycle I could ride to the local grocery store and my friends’ houses. It’ll save me some money on fuel, it’s better for my health, and it’s better for the environment. That’s a win win win proposition!
I am absolutely enamored by this bike, the Trek District. I love everything about it except for the whole single-speed thing. I’m not a fan of fixies, so I hope this is a freewheel. However, the price ($900+) might be the deal breaker for me. We’ll see…
