Nikon D90 records HD video!
Aug/080
As soon as DSLRs started to integrating a “Live View” feature, whereby one can preview the image on the LCD screen just like Point and Shoot cameras, I knew it was just a matter of time before someone does the obvious step; video recording. Well it looks like Nikon beat everyone to the punch with their upcoming D90. After reading the specs on this baby, I could only complain about the fixed focus video recording. Can’t a person dream of recording an HD video WITH manual focus on the relative cheap and not have to buy a camcorder?! I guess I’ll have to wait a little longer for that. I guess I don’t read well, you can’t autofocus but manual focus is still available, perfect! Click HERE for sample videos (it’s sofa king amazing).
I’m a Canon shooter and I really enjoy my 5D, but I have noticed a few features not available on my camera (or in any Canon camera for that matter) that is available on a Nikon. This new announcement makes me think that Canon needs to step their game up pronto!
One of the things I learned while studying marketing is that the cost of switching brands is either an advantage or disadvantage depending on the viewpoint. From my perspective, it’s clearly a disadvantage because I have already invested/spent the thousands of dollars on products that will not work with anything but Canon DSLRs. Although it’s tempting, it will be tough switching to Nikon at this point. I’ll just wait until Canon releases something similar because I already have too much money spent on lenses.
