Got my bike, had a coworker put it together real quick. He scratched the paint on the stem cap, bummer. When I got home I realized the rims are not black as shown in the stock photo, double bummer. Then I found out both wheels aren’t true (wobbles)? Triple bummer!

Bought a black wheelset to solve problem 2, and hopefully problem 3 as well. They’re arriving next week. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Had some fun adjusting the front derailleur today. All gears engage except for my lowest gear, it keeps popping out. I’ll figure it out soon enough. I’m just glad I finally got a bicycle. I haven’t ridden my own bike since my freshman year in college. Riding a bike is…like riding a bike, I totally can relate to that terminology now!

I’ve been patiently waiting for the Trek District since its initial November release date.  Here we are 7 months later, one delay after another, rumors upon rumors as to what’s holding up production, and I am no closer in getting that bike now than I was in November.  Apparently other people around the world have been getting their bikes which makes me even more frustrated as to why my size (54cm) seems to be the most difficult to find. Most people have been getting 56’s.

I stopped by my local bike shop after work just last week. I was convinced that this shop would be the last place I’d ever see the bike. my friend had to be the one who pointed it out to me. “Oh that’s a sick looking bike!” He yelled. I turned around and saw its orange rims staring at me right in the face, it was like a dream. But this was a dream with a sad ending, as it was another 56 District. I’ve never wanted to be 6 feet tall more so than at that very moment so I can ride it home with me. Ugh.

Meanwhile at another bike I shop I saw this matte/flat black road bike and found a deal I couldn’t pass up. Murdered out, drop bars, gears, a sick minimalist color scheme, found a killer deal, available and in stock…SOLD!

The bike should deliver sometime after the 4th of July weekend. I’ve already checked the weather forecast for next week, low 90’s. I’m starting a bike club, who wants to join?

Pedal Pedal Pedal

The last time I pedaled was in Berlin on an old and borrowed bicycle with a couple of friends. I had forgotten how fun bicycles were! The last bike I owned was a BMX, which I haven’t ridden in almost a decade. I should really throw it away or donate it soon before the spiders living inside the handlebar tubes claim it for good.

So I just got a new job (a story for another time), and I am once looking to again spend some money before I actually get any. This time, I am looking for a bicycle I could ride to the local grocery store and my friends’ houses. It’ll save me some money on fuel, it’s better for my health, and it’s better for the environment. That’s a win win win proposition!

I am absolutely enamored by this bike, the Trek District. I love everything about it except for the whole single-speed thing. I’m not a fan of fixies, so I hope this is a freewheel. However, the price ($900+) might be the deal breaker for me. We’ll see…
